Between the loneliness of the shadow

The stone streets feel cold, but the sun peeking at the end of the alley gives them a bit of warmth. Everything is quiet, only the echo of slow, dragging footsteps can be heard.
A woman walks slowly, leaning on her cane. There’s no rush. She has probably walked this path a thousand times, and each time it feels a little longer.
The houses, with their iron balconies and closed windows, seem to watch her pass by. In the distance, the light breaks through, illuminating the entrance of a church and a couple of parked cars.
It’s a simple, everyday scene. But in that contrast between shadow and light, between the old and the new, there’s something that makes it feel special.
